Traditionally, there have been few ways to straighten and correct your teeth. You could suffer through painful and unsightly metal braces or live with gaps, crookedness and crowding.
Invisalign is a system that will allow you to get beautiful, straight teeth without the encumbrance of traditional metal braces. The Invisalign method can correct crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, crossbites, overbites and underbites. Dr. Abraham Katz will fit you with your custom Invisalign aligners that you will replace bimonthly to gradually transform your smile. Your aligners should be worn about 20 to 22 hours a day, but they can be removed to eat, drink and brush your teeth.Advantages of the Invisalign system over conventional braces
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible and are made of a lightweight plastic material. You will hardly know you’re wearing them.
The aligners can be removed for easy cleaning and while you eat.
Aligners avoid the painful effects of metal braces on the wearer because there are no metal edges that can cut up gums and cheeks.
Invisalign will not damage your tooth enamel, unlike metal braces potentially can.
The Invisalign Process
- After making molds of your teeth during your initial visit, Dr. Katz will use the Invisalign software to create your custom treatment program.
- When you make your next visit, Dr. Katz will give you the first couple sets of custom aligners and show you how to properly care for and use them.
- You will be given the sequence in which you should wear your aligners, replacing an old aligner with a new one about every two weeks.
- You can expect that you will have a check-up about every six weeks, at which point you will be given new aligners and Dr. Katz will examine the progress of your smile.
The typical adult treatment takes just under one year, but this can vary depending upon the amount of correction needed. It is always best to wear your aligners as much as possible to ensure the shortest treatment time.
After your treatment is completed, you will likely still need to wear a retainer at night to ensure that your teeth remain in their corrected position. Many people also choose to whiten their teeth to further enhance their new smile.
